Turkey History
Troy which has an important position on the land of Anatolia where the civilization of the world has been born and had flourished has always attracted the interest of the archaeologists around the world for almost a hundred years. Iliad and Odysseus, two masterpieces in the world literature, tell about this city. The excavation which was started by Schliemann in 1870 was carried on by Dorpfeld and Blegen, and Korfmann has been continuing the diggings at present.
Every year thousands of tourists have been coming to see this worldly-known famous city. Though a lot of books and articles have been published about Troy, still thinking that the publications which have Troy known to visitors are not enough, it urged us to prepare this book. This book was written by benefiting from all the scientific books and articles published in the last years related with Troy, excluding scientific terms for the visitors to understand easily. Our main purpose at writing this book is that Troy should be known not only by scientific world, but also it should give information to everybody who wish to recognize it.
Especially Prof. Korfmann, the leader of the excavation team of Troy, with many important scientists of the world, have unearthed many secrets of Troy since 1988, therefore we got so many information from this research.
We'd like to thank him for his contribution to Troy and to the world of archaeology. Besides we'd also like to thank the Qanakkale Directorate and their personnel that provide the protection for and take care of this antique city which is one of the most important cultural descendants of the world.
İstanbul
İstanbul, which was known as a capital of the capital cities, and created a big peace of geographies with regaining to first Roma, and then Eastern Roman (Byzantium) Empire and continents, and was the capital city of Ottoman Empire, is going to a modern future with preserving magnificence of history with proud. Variety in İstanbul is really charming the visitors. It is serving infinite nuances with its museums, churches, palaces, mosques, bazaar places and natural beauties. When you lean against backside at the coast of the strait, you feel İstanbul as "center of the world" and understand why people select this extraordinary place centuries before with watching the reflection of the red at sun set from the houses at the coast.

Cappadocia
Cappadocian Region displays a beautiful combination of nature and history. The geographic movements had formed the "peri bacaları"(Fair chimneys) and during the historical development process, mankind had settled and inhabited these natural wonders, fairy chimneys and carved houses and churches inside these formations and adorned these settlements with frescos, carrying the traces of the thousands of years of their civilizations. The current Cappadocian Region is an area covering Nevşehir, Aksaray, Niğde, Kayseri and as for the more narrow rocky Cappadocian Region, Üçhisar, Ürgüp, Avanos, Göreme, Derinkuyu, Kaymaklı, Ihlara and its environs will be included.
Aegean Coasts
If someone was claim that the most scenic vistas in Anatolia can be found on the coasts of the Aegean, he could not be accused of exaggerating. In the words of Heredotus, the Aegean coasts "have the most beautiful sky and the best climate in the world." The bays and peninsulas, coves and golden beaches stretch the length of these beautiful shores. In this region where the countless events of mythology took place, at almost every turn, you will encounter the theaters, temples and agoras of ancient cities:Bodrum, Fethiye, Marmaris, Kuşadası, Selçuk, Bergama, Foça, Çeşme, Pamukkale...
Ephesus Artemis Temple
This famous temple is one of the seven wonders of the world, and is also known as Artemission. It was first built in lonian style during 560-550 B.C. by the Lydian King Kroisos. After being burnt down in 356 B.C. by a lunatic, it was rebuilt on the same foundations, but its height was extended by 3 m. This temple, which is also famous for its marble statues, is 55.10 x 115 in dimensions and was the largest of all temple, which were discovered during digs by J.T. Wood in 1869-1874, and David G. Hogart in 1904-1905 in the name of the British Museum, were taken to England.
